Ministry Background
The Bakelaars have been in Japan for eight years, and spent one summer in Taiwan.
Ministry Update Christ’s church in Kaguayama, Japan is being rooted and built up, and the Bakelaars thank God for all He is doing. The Sunday service at the church is averaging about 40 people each week, with many seekers coming to the new church. Small care groups are taking shape within the church.
The International Christian Academy started by the MTW Japan team is growing and compliments the ministry of the church plant, with the parents of the children in the school showing interest in Bible study. Linda Wixon, also an MTW missionary, teaches at the school. Land has been purchased for the team’s ministry center which will house many different ministries and outreaches.
Peter and Diane and theft children will be in the States for a ten-month Home Ministry Assignment starting in the summer of 2001. During that time they will be traveling to supporting churches to report on the work in Japan, and to recruit for the ministry there. They are hoping to recruit English teachers for the Christian school.
Praises
Three baptisms have been performed this past year in the new church, and God continues to add to this congregation. The Bakelaars celebrate the fact of transformed lives through the power of the Gospel.
Pray for Their Ministry
Please pray for the fund-raising efforts to build the ministry center. Please pray for a Japanese pastor for the new church plant. Pray for a Japanese man that can work with them from the beginning. This would help ease the transition to when he would become the full-time Japanese pastor.
Pray for Those They Serve
Please pray for the baptism of Takemitsu Ohashi. Please pray for the English students who study with the Bakelaars and are exposed to the Bible each week. Please pray that many of these students would get involved in their Bible studies. Please pray for Megumi and other Japanese who have said they will be visiting Peter and Diane while they are in the States, that this time could be used of God to draw them to himself Many Japanese are more open to spiritual things once they have been out of Japan for a while.
Pray for Them
Please pray for the Bakelaar children’s adjustments to a new school and setting during this Home Ministry Assignment. This is the first time they have been to American public school. Please pray for Peter as he travels. Please pray that God would use their time in the States for His glory, and to prepare them for a new term of service in Japan when they return next year.
