Ministry Background
Ron is a graduate of Reformed Theological Seminary in Mississippi. He was the pastor of Friendship Presbyterian Church in Eufala, Alabama for two-and-a-half years, and then pastor of New Life Presbyterian Church in Tifton, Georgia for eleven years. The Clegg family began their ministry in Budapest, Hungary in September 2001.
Ministry Update
Decades of Communist oppression created a "fortress" mentality in the evangelical church in Eastern Europe. When the Iron Curtain was torn down in the early 1990’s, there was great interest in Christianity. Currently there is still an openness to the gospel in some areas, yet Western secularism threatens to engulf the region.
In 1999, World Harvest Mission began building a team based in the gateway city of Budapest. The team is working to renew churches throughout Central and Eastern Europe by developing a distinctively European version of their "Sonship" course.
Ron is currently serving as a teacher/discipler for church leaders, new church planters, and mission agencies in Eastern Europe. He also preaches occasionally at their international church.
A major part of the Cleggs’ first year in Budapest is studying the Magyar (Hungarian) language and culture. The Sonship conferences are in English, and are translated in the language of the local participants. They are also studying
Hungarian history in hopes of having a better appreciation of the people and places around them.
Praises
God continues to build their relationships with the Hungarian people through the English class they teach.
Pray for Their Ministry
Pray that God would provide networking opportunities with missionaries and national pastors to build relationships for future ministry. Each time a Sonship
conference is held, the opportunity for future ministry grows. Please pray that God would raise up more workers for this mission field.
Pray for Them
Please pray that the Clegg family will continue to make progress in their study of the Hungarian language and culture. Pray also for team members. They would like to see five families established in Hungary in the next five years. Pray for Lauryn as she enters Covenant College in August 2002, and for Ron and Gayle as they say goodbye.
