Wayne served as a short term missionary in Japan with MTW from 1982 to 1985, teaching English and the Bible. God confirmed his call to missions and gave him a great love for the people of Japan during this time. After attending Reformed Theological Seminary, he was accepted with MTW in 1987. Amy and Wayne married in 1988, and returned as a family to Japan in 1991.

Ministry Update

The Newsomes serve as team leaders of the Nagoya church-planting team. The team has now begun a phase which includes church plants, college ministry, partnering with and training Japanese pastors, and establishing a church planting movement in one of the most unreached areas in Japan. They work in cooperation with the Japan Presbyterian Church.

The Nagoya church planting team rejoices in the great work God is doing there. This year the newest church plant, Nisshin Christ Church, was organized as an official church, and had its first three baptisms in April. More new believers are preparing for baptism, and many seekers are attending worship services, studying the Bible and moving along in the process of meeting Christ.

The MTW Japan team’s goal of training Japanese leaders is being met in the internship program. This year they have had four Japanese interns working with them, and two are continuing while the other two attend seminary to prepare for future

Praises

Praise God that an average of 50 people gather each week for worship at Nisshin Christ Church. The team’s other church plant, Chita Zion Church, is growing and maturing with a Japanese pastor in place.

Praise God that the International Christian Academy of Nagoya, the school started by the MTW Japan team, has grown to 46 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Many Japanese men and women, boys and girls are being exposed to the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the ministry of the church, school and English program.

Pray for Their Ministry

Please pray for success in establishing small groups for every Christian and seeker at Nisshin Christ Church. Pray for the ability to train the leaders of the small groups well. Pray for a more adequate facility to accommodate the Nagoya team’s growing ministry.

Pray for Those They Serve

Please pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Japan, to revive the floundering church and bring salvation to the lost.

Pray for Them

Pray for a strong and happy marriage for Wayne and Amy, and for wisdom and skill in raising theft five children. Pray for balance and good use of their time and energy.
