Senior Pastor – Rev. David Hall

Senior Pastor - Rev. David HallThe Rev. David W. Hall is married to Ann, and they are parents of three grown children and three grandchildren. He has served as the Senior Pastor of Midway Presbyterian Church (PCA) since 2003. Previously, he served as Pastor of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Oak Ridge, Tennessee (1984-2003) and as Associate Pastor at the First Presbyterian Church in Rome, Georgia (1980-1984).

Pastor Hall’s undergraduate degree from the University of Memphis (B. A., 1975) was in philosophy. After completion of his undergraduate studies, Pastor Hall studied at Swiss L’Abri and then enrolled at Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, graduating in 1980. He later earned a Ph.D. in Christian Intellectual Thought from Whitefield Theological Seminary. He was ordained in 1980.

In addition to pastoring, David Hall is the author or editor of over 20 books and numerous essays. He was also the Founder and Senior Fellow of the Kuyper Institute in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. In addition to his commentaries and Kuyper Institute Briefings, his works include: The Genevan Reformation and the American Founding; Savior or Servant? Putting Government in Its Place; Election Day Sermons; The Arrogance of the Modern: Historical Theology Held in Contempt; Holding Fast to Creation; Paradigms in Polity; The Millennium of Jesus Christ: An Exposition of The Revelation for All Ages, Welfare Reformed: A Compassionate Approach and A Heart Promptly Offered: The Revolutionary Leadership of John Calvin. In addition to his work as Executive Director of Calvin500 (Geneva, 2009), his Calvin500 series contains the following works: The Legacy of John Calvin, Calvin in the Public Square, Calvin and Commerce, Preaching Like Calvin, Calvin and Culture, Tributes to John Calvin, and Theological Guide to Calvin’s Institutes.

Assistant Pastor for Teaching, Discipleship & Congregational Care –
Rev. Marc Harrington

Rev. Marc Harrington

Reverend Marc Harrington is our Asst. Pastor for Teaching, Discipleship & Congregational Care. He has served as Assistant Pastor at Midway PCA in Powder Springs, Georgia, since 2008.Previous to his time here at Midway, he was an Associate Pastor at Golden Isles Presbyterian Church on St. Simons Island on the Georgia coast from 2005 – 2007. From 2002 to 2005, Rev. Harrington served at Kirk O’ the Isles Presbyterian in Savannah, Georgia as an Assistant Pastor. His internship was in 2001 at Independent Presbyterian in Savannah, Georgia.

Pastor Harrington received his undergraduate degree in history (B.A., 1994) from Georgia Southern University. He studied at Reformed Theological Seminary, receiving his Master of Divinity degree in 1999. Currently enrolled at Westminster Theological Seminary, working on a Doctor of Ministry degree. Marc and his wife Kate have two daughters.

Assistant Pastor for Families & Outreach – Rev. Joel Smit

Rev. Joel Smit

Joel Smit is our Pastor for Families and Outreach. He has served as an Assistant Pastor with Midway since 2008, originally coming here as our Assistant Pastor for Youth.  Previously, he served as an intern at Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church in Greenville, South Carolina. Pastor Smit also currently serves as a volunteer police chaplain for the Cobb County Police Department.

He and his wife Stefanie originate from California and they have four children – two sons and two daughters. Pastor Smit graduated from Simpson University (Redding, CA) in 2002 with a BA in Biblical Studies. He attended Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, receiving his Master of Divinity degree in 2008.



Assistant Pastor for Youth – Rev. Benjamin Thomas

Ben Thomas CompressedBen Thomas is our Assistant Pastor for Youth.  Though born and raised in Sumter, SC, Ben is married to a Georgia Peach, Heidi and they have one son.  In 2004, he graduated from Appalachian State University with a BA in English, and then earned a Master of Divinity degree from Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte in 2010.  Before joining the Midway Staff, he has worked as the Youth Director at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Sumter, SC.  He has also served as pulpit supply at Sovereign King Presbyterian Church in Garner, NC as well as in pulpits overseas.
